The Torn Wing by Kiki Hamilton, Cover Reveal

I am so excited about the cover reveal for The Torn Wing, which Kiki Hamilton shared today on her blog. Not only am I excited this book is finally be released (later this year), but Kiki shared a little bit of exciting news with me about the cover. First, check out the cover:

The Torn Wing is the sequel to The Faerie Wing, and here's the two covers side by side:

I love it when the covers of a series match. These two covers look lovely side by side.

Now for the exciting news, well I think it's extremely exciting... I found out today I'm quoted on the back of Kiki's book!! Myself and Alyssa from Teens Read & Write are both quoted along with some of the other professional reviewers. You can click on the image to enlarge it to read the quotes.

I'm so excited about this! I really enjoyed Kiki's debut and I'm looking forward to jumping back into Tiki's world when The Torn Wing is out on October 2nd. Here's a little bit about the book:

Tiki’s greatest fear suddenly becomes all too real: the fey have returned to London seeking revenge. As war escalates in the Otherworld, Queen Victoria’s youngest son, Prince Leopold, is attacked.  In order to protect her family and the ones she loves, she needs to know the meaning of an fáinne sí, the birthmark that winds around her wrist. But will Tiki be brave enough to face the truth?

A bloody escape, a deadly threat, a shocking revelation…

Book Review: Sweet Evil by Wendy Higgins

Seductive, Sweet, and Intense, Sweet Evil is a book paranormal romance fans will devour. There's something about a forbidden romance, hot character chemistry and a fascinating paranormal world that makes for a read that's hard to put down, and Sweet Evil is one of those indulgence I couldn't stop reading. I was not excepting to find myself as wrapped as I was with this book. Wendy's world building, character development and engaging plot line made for an exciting read.

Before I talk characters, I want to mention the world building. I was captivated with Wendy's ability to create a world that was both fascinating and intense in the sense I couldn't stop reading it. I wanted to know more about the world, the characters and their history. Don't write this book off for another YA book about angels and demons. There's much more than that happening in Sweet Evil. Yes, Sweet Evil has angel lore in it, but the main focus of the story is the characters who are the off spring of Demons, the fallen angels who followed Lucifer out of heaven and were banished to hell. Twelve of the strongest were made Dukes and reside on earth, and one is a Lord over one of the 12 indulgences humans fall victim too, lust, addictions, greed etc. Many of them have at least one offspring, hence the story of Anna.

I thought Anna was a great protagonist. She starts off as this sweet and completely innocent girl, but as the story goes on finds out far more than she ever thought possible about herself. She's the daughter of a Guardian Angel and a Demon. Her father is the Duke of Addiction. Here's the think I like about Anna, was getting to see and understand her inner battle over the good vs evil that she constantly faces on a daily bases. Being half and half makes her a powerful girl, but it also makes her naive to the things going on around her. I liked how much her grew as the story goes on, even though she does do a few surprising things. She not only meets her father for the first at sixteen and gets thrown right into this darker world, but she also falls in love for the first time. She meets Kaidan at a time when she's trying to figure out more about who she really is and what these abilities are that she has.

Kaidan, who just so happens to be the son of the Duke of Lust knows how to bring it in this story. This boy come loaded with charm, experience and hotness. One of the things I liked about Kaidan is how straight forward he is with Anna and really everyone. There's no sugar coating anything with this boy. The chemistry between Anna and Kaidan is smoking! I seriously loved how the two of them were intrigued with each other, couldn't stand each other, then were intrigued with each other again. Through out much of the book they fought the feelings they had for each other. They definitely had some steamy moments between the two of them, when they gave into their impulses. Being that heir love was strictly forbidden, and could result in death definitely upped the stakes in this book.

Aside from Anna and Kaidan is a cast of colorful characters who all added a richness to the story. They all had a purpose being in this book and I liked getting to know some of them more. Anna's Dad is someone who intrigued me the most. I loved that his bad a guy who ruled part of the dark underworld had this soft spot not only for Anna's mom before she did, but Anna as well. I mean he's not someone you want to mess with, but the tenderness he shows got to the softer side of me. I loved getting to know more about his story with Anna's mom. That's the thing that Wendy does with this book that hooked me. She creates such realistic characters, has these rich descriptions that just suck you in and allow you to feel and connect with the story, and she leaves wanting more. Not just from the main characters, but from all the characters.

The funny thing about this book is I was more drawn to the cover of it than the synopsis. I honestly thought there would be all this stuff going on in the book like a bunch of teenage partying, sex etc and I personally didn't want to read it. *gasp* I totally judged a book before reading it, and I'm so pleasantly surprised it proved me wrong! Yes there's sensual scenes, underage drinking, mentions of fooling around, rape and drugs, but there's no profanity, no sex or hard core stuff in this book. In fact, Anna is a virgin and her virginity plays a huge role in this book, and I liked that. This book is more about choosing your destiny, redemption and rising above what's expected of you vs what you know is right. From the moment I opened the book I couldn't put it down. The way in which Wendy unravels her plot line and allowed me to get to know her characters more and understand her world building was addicting and so refreshing for me. I'm hoping there's going to be a sequel to this book!

I love Helen and her snarky come backs. This excerpt is taken out of context is from the middle of a conversation she's having with another character. Be sure to visit the the tour page here and stop by Books with Bite tomorrow to read her review of Dreamless.

Mundane Monday #138

Happy Monday! I don't know why, but this scene between Jace and Clary makes me laugh. We see how defiant Clary and how stubborn Jace is. These two are such a perfect match for each other.... haha

Clary crossed her arms over her chest. "What if I don't want to see him?"

"That's your problem. You can come either willingly or unwillingly."

Clary couldn't believe her ears. "Are you threatening to kidnap me?"

"If you want to loo at it that way," Jace said, "yes."

Josephine Angelini’s compelling saga becomes ever more intricate and spellbinding as an unforgettable love triangle emerges and the eternal cycle of revenge intensifies. Eagerly awaited, this sequel to the internationally bestselling STARCROSSED delivers a gritty, action-packed love story that exceeds expectation -quoted from Goodreads

What happens when you mix ancient Greek mythology, forbidden love, and a beautiful setting? You get a must read, sizzling, summer romance! Josephine took what I loved about STARCROSSED to the next level in DREAMLESS, and I enjoyed every moment of this book. I couldn't get enough of the well developed, strong characters, the complicated love triangle, and the grueling journey that Helen takes. I thoroughly enjoyed being able to jump back into Helen's world. There's betrayal, action, loyalty, conflicted love, and a few uncovered secrets kept me hooked the entire time I spent reading Dreamless. The flawless storyline, and smooth flowing plot made it so hard to put this story down.

Dreamless picks up not long after STARCROSSED ends, and throws readers back into the thick of things that happened at the end of that book. If you don't remember everything that happened STARCROSSED, you will be by the end of the first chapter of DREAMLESS. Helen for me is a character who came out swinging in this book. Her dangerous journey she makes almost nightly to the Underworld is starting to take a toll on her, but to save those she cares about she continues to go. Not one for feeling like she fits in with her "family", she tries to accomplish her journey on her own. I can't say I that I don't blame her. She's a strong willed character and had I been in her shoes I probably would have done the same thing. Through a surprising twist "a certain someone" sends my favorite character from this book, Orion to help her.

Oh my hotness, does this boy turn up the heat and the charm in this story. He's definitely one character that surprised me in this book, and he left me wanting more from him. I loved the chemistry between Orion and Helen, and the way their relationship develops. They relate to each other, understand each other, and one of the things I love about Orion is how honest he is. Well his brute strength and good looks also have a lot going for him, but he's so much more than just another pretty boy character. He's in-depth, supportive and down right funny (at times). Don't worry, there's plenty of Lucas in this story line too, and I really liked what Josephine did with the complicated relationship he and Helen have.

The characters were fabulous in this book! I felt like a lot of them grew and matured from when I first met them in STARCROSSED, and I love that when an author grows their characters as the storyline continues. I feel like that's crucial for the story, and Josephine does a excellent job with that. Along with that growth comes some surprising twists, a more in-detailed look into this well written mythology and a deeper look into the ancient Greek world. There's so much I want to discuss about this book along with some key moments between a few characters, but I can't do that without giving away spoilers. I'll conclude by saying definitely add this book to your Summer reading list! If you enjoyed STARCROSSED, just wait till you read DREAMLESS!

Cover Love: The Harper Teen Edition

There's been a few recent cover reveals that have been a buzz this past week on Twitter and I wanted to take a moment to share them here on the blog. Check out the newest cover reveals for:

Courtney Allison Moulton revealed the cover of her last installment in the Angelfire series this week, Shadows in the Silence. I'm a huge fan of each of her covers, but I think this one might be my favorite.

Tahereh Mafi's Shatter Me has a whole new cover for it's paperback. Check out the new design! I think Tahereh summed it up best when she said, "it's strange. it's weird and beautiful and kind of unexpected and highly metaphorical in its representation. it's basically like the inside of Juliette's head. in fact, everything about it -- every detail -- is significant to the story". I'm normally not a fan of covers being redone, but I really like the symbolism from the story on the new cover.

I love this cover for the paper back edition of Liesel & Po! You can check out Lauren's post about it on her website here.

Speaking of Harper Teen, I've got some exciting news about their upcoming reveal this week! Harper Teen will be unveiling their sites EpicReads.com, PitchDark.com, and StoryCrush.com this week! Here's a little bit more about these sites.

From Harper Teen

Book Review: Timepiece by Myra McEntire

Series: Hourglass #2

A threat from the past could destroy the future. And the clock is ticking...

Kaleb Ballard's relentless flirting is interrupted when Jack Landers, the man who tried to murder his father, timeslips in and attacks before disappearing just as quickly. But Kaleb has never before been able to see time travelers, unlike many of his friends associated with the mysterious Hourglass organization. Are Kaleb's powers expanding, or is something very wrong?

Then the Hourglass is issued an ultimatum. Either they find Jack and the research he's stolen on the time gene, or time will be altered with devastating results.

Now Kaleb, Emerson, Michael, and the other Hourglass recruits have no choice but to use their unusual powers to find Jack. But where do they even start? And when? And even if they succeed, it may not be enough...

The follow-up to Hourglass, Timepiece blends the paranormal, science fiction, mystery, and suspense genres into a nonstop thrill ride where every second counts
-quoted from Goodreads

A suspenseful, action packed sequel, laced with with sizzling Southern romance, and plenty of snark, Timepiece took everything I loved about Hourglass and upped it a whole new level. Narrated from my favorite character from this series, Kaleb, this book is packed full of humor, plenty of time traveling action and plot twists that kept me holding on to this book until I finished it. Not that I wanted this book to end either. Myra has created these characters I've come to love, worry about and care for. She's also created an incredibly enticing world, and engaging plot line that leaves me wanting more.

Oh Kaleb! I completely adored Kaleb in Hourglass, and fell in love with him even more in Timepiece. There's something (okay a lot of things) about this boy that I love. He's that southern gentleman who knows how to say all the right things, is down to earth, fun, and has this incredibly tough ulterior, though on the inside he's a little soft around the edges. I say that in a good way, because in Timepiece we get to see Kaleb in a different light than how we saw him through Emerson in Hourglass. That softer, more breakable part of him is what got to me the most. Okay, maybe it also made him a little bit more resistible, not to mention his inner dialogue and the things he says and does. His narration is spot one, and I loved that one moment he could have me feeling sorry for him and the next moment snort laughing over something he said.

The romance is sizzling in this book! I'm not just talking Michael and Emerson's ability to short out electronic devices when they kiss. This is after all Kaleb we're talking about, and the petite, fiery Lily who knows how to handle him and put him in his place.  I'll admit that some part of me still secretly wanted Emerson to choose Kaleb over Michael. Not that Michael and Emerson don't make a lovely couple, because they do. I was rooting for Kaleb to have someone like Emerson, but that was until Lily came into Kaleb's picture. From the moment these two met it's tension, fireworks and a whole lot of snark and saying it how it is. You guys know how much I love that. These two are seriously awesome together, and I'm sure Kaleb would say their relationship is like an atomic fire ball.... see my interview with Kaleb to know why I referenced that.

Myra's writing is once again incredible. She makes everything around me disappear while I'm reading her books. It's not just the getting lost in her books that I love, but reading about her characters, uncovering the mystery of Jack Landers, and all that's going on, and reading about the rips and time travel abilities that some of the characters have. I also love that Myra doesn't just tell me about her series's time traveling and the costly effects it has on some of the characters, she also shows me. I love that when an author is able to both tell and show me what's going on. That adds to some of the books suspense with what happens in Timepiece.

I'm totally fascinated by Myra's world, and all that is going on there. Let me just say, there's a lot that happens in this book! I highly recommend picking this book up! It's definitely a perfect read for a lazy afternoon by the pool, floating on the river or hanging out inside with AC running.
